Description

Liliana Moro. La fidanzata di Zorro is part of an editorial project created by the Ambrosetti Arte Contemporanea Foundation and dedicated to an analysis of the protagonists and events of contemporary art.
This particular book, curated by Loredana Parmesani and Cecilia Casorati, is an extensive investigation into the work of Liliana Moro, one of the most representative artists of her generation. The book contains exhaustive material covering the artist’s entire oeuvre, including a complete collection of all her work, an important anthology of critical texts, a detailed biography and the transcription of notes from a conference the artist held at the Foundation in January 2003.
On that occasion the joint project to create this book was outlined; the objective was to create a considerable work on the activities of this leading contemporary artist.
Through a play of fragility and strength and a merciless and penetrating gaze capable of unmasking external and superficial features and conventions, Liliana Moro has formulated an artistic language in which discourse on reality is interwoven into the world of childhood, a world in which the possible prevails over the operative.
The book is not simply a catalogue to the exhibition set up by the artist at the Foundation, even though it was presented on that occasion. Rather, it is a research tool examining a body of work whose formal and linguistic complexity necessitates careful critical exploration.
The nature of Liliana Moro’s unique work sees the fable, the mask and games as key elements in a personal syntax, allowing her to explore her own deep emotional states and reflect on social relationships at the same time. This makes her an important reference point for an understanding of the cultural climate marking the period from the 1990s to the present day.
